KUCHING: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) will be stepping up precautionary measures in light of the area being declared as a Covid-19 red zone yesterday, with 42 cases as of Tuesday.
MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos said the council would continue to implement the usual procedures but in an intensified manner, including guiding and supervising supermarkets, shops and shoppers on social distancing and cleanliness.
“We will continue disinfecting public markets and key public locations as well as helping with enforcement together with the police – generally complying with the government’s instructions,” he said.
He hoped that Kota Samarahan residents would take matters more seriously now that the area was classified as a red zone.
“In particular, we want residents not to go out unless absolutely necessary, such as to purchase food and medicine. The movement control order (MCO) rules must be fully and strictly observed,” he stressed.
He advised the people of Samarahan to be extra cautious.
“No meetings, no socialising, no gatherings – take these matters very seriously. If not, things will surely get worse,” Minos cautioned.
He expressed concern and worry over Kota Samarahan’s status as a red zone.
“Whatever the matter, we must follow the government’s orders and rules, especially at a time like this,” he said.
