PUNCAK BORNEO: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) will not hold a gotong-royong clean up activity with its residents seasonally, but will do so only from time to time.

Public Affairs and Community Development standing committee chairman Rabian Kipli said such step was necessary to ensure that the surrounding areas, especially the residential areas of the MPP, were always clean, beautiful and vibrant.

“We (MPP) do not only have gotong-royong activities to clean the areas when there are cases like dengue outbreaks or other infectious diseases but they are held regularly.

“We are also pleased that whenever the gotong-royong is held, the event often receives the attention of the people in the village where the activity is being held,” he said.

He said this when representing MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang at the inaugural gotong-royong event in Kampung Bra’ang, Temurang yesterday.

The first gotong-royong activity was held to build a trash can placement site at the Bra’ang Temurang Village Tourism Information Centre.

This activity was organised by MPP in collaboration with Kampung Bra’ang, Temurang Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).

Rabian also pointed out besides stimulating the spirit of cooperation within the community, the gotong-royong activity also provided an opportunity for residents to repair some basic facilities which were found damaged or upgrade them.

Also present at the event were Ing Siang Wei who represented MPP secretary, Penghulu Tora Jongsen and Kampung Bra’ang Temurang village chief Rodza Jerim and several MPP councilors.
