KUCHING: The provision of a temporary hawker centre operated by the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has helped small traders affected by the Covid-19 pandemic to make ends meet.

Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian praised the council’s initiative, saying this was a good policy to help traders rebuild their economy.

“I hope more such initiatives are done to help those who have lost their source of income,” said the Sarawak Local Government and Housing Minister.

He said this during MPP’s 25th anniversary celebration via Zoom application and streamed live on the council’s Facebook page, on Friday (Aug 27).

Dr Sim also urged small traders and food premises owners to get vaccinated for their safety and that of others.

“They should always adhere to standard operating procedures and monitoring should also be carried out to prevent the spread of the virus.”
