MIRI: The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri Branch’s Welfare, Health and Community Sub-Committee yesterday (Oct 20) carried out a charity project to support two families in need, located in Sealine and Tudan Desaras.

The initiative aimed to improve the families’ well-being through education and essential item donations.

Dr Uma Devi, the chairperson of the sub-committee, delivered an educational talk covering key topics such as the dangers of plastic use, the importance of cleanliness, and the benefits of maintaining a healthy diet.

These topics were carefully selected to raise awareness among the families about essential health and environmental practices.

In addition to Dr Uma’s session, representatives from the Miri City Council, Roslan Ali and Dayang Siti, provided the families with a briefing on the services offered by the council and how they can address community-related issues through the appropriate channels.

A highlight of the visit was the distribution of stainless-steel food containers, donated by a group of anonymous benefactors.

These containers were given to promote safe food storage practices, in line with the message of reducing plastic use.

MRC Miri extended its gratitude to the generous donors for their support in making this initiative possible.

Along with the stainless-steel containers, the team also distributed dry food, stationery for schoolchildren, and clothing to the families.

The visit was part of MRC Miri’s ongoing commitment to community service, with future visits planned in the hopes of engaging more volunteers to join the cause and contribute to building a better community.

A total of nine volunteers participated in the project, including Dr Uma, V.P. Govindasamy, Mohd Shobri from the Miri City Council, Nancy Sim from the Divisional Medical Office, and MRC Miri staff members Randai Miang and Ismawi Ahmad.
