SIBU: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) has come in for praise for its voluntary contribution to humanitarian causes and promotion of its principles both locally and globally.

Its newly appointed adviser Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau saluted the organisation during the launching of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day Celebration at the MRCS Sibu branch headquarters yesterday (May 8).

“Taking this opportunity, I would like to express our most sincere appreciation towards all members of MRCS Sibu who have been most willing in rendering their generous voluntary contribution for humanitarian causes and promotion of Red Crescent principles both locally and globally all these years,” he said.

He pointed out that MRCS here and all its chapters throughout the country have always played an important role in helping the less fortunate within the communities.

“This May 8 is an opportunity for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement, our staff, and millions of volunteers worldwide to unite in our unwavering commitment to common humanity.

“Our commitment mandates us to advocate for the world’s most vulnerable people, wherever they may be. We also reaffirm our fundamental principles, which are at the heart of everything we do to assist people in need.

“They are the basis of our solidarity with the Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers and staff in action around the world,” he said.
Lau urged everyone to spread the flame of humanity and believe in the power of kindness.

“At this juncture, I would like to call upon more volunteers to join this humane and dedicated movement and help alleviate sufferings in the community where we live and the world as a whole.

“I would like to urge all the members of the MRCS Sibu to continue to promote activities in recruiting more members and strive for a stronger chapter.

“With the strong foundation laid by past leaders and committee members, I have great confidence that MRCS Sibu will continue to dedicate its efforts to leverage opportunities to expand the chapter’s influence while seeking to unite all sectors of society for positive impact,” he said.
