SIBU: Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu Branch is targeting to raise a sum of RM30,000 through its annual flag sales this year.

In stating this its chairman Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee said the sale of the Red Crescent flag is an important fundraising effort, aimed at supporting the organisation’s various projects and initiatives.

“By purchasing a Red Crescent flag, you are not only showing your support for the organisation but also contributing to the important work it does around the world.

“It is an initiative that has been making a positive impact on our community. The Red Crescent is an international humanitarian organisation, committed to helping those in need during times of crisis, disaster and conflict,” he said at the launching of the MRCS Sibu Branch’s annual flag sales 2023, at Sibu Central Market here Saturday (Apr 1).

Also present were deputy Chairman of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley and adviser of MRCS Sibu Branch Datuk Lau Ngie Hua.

Chua said since the MRCS Sibu Branch does not receive any grant from the government it faced financial difficulties to carry out its numerous activities and projects effectively.

“There is always a misconception that Red Crescent is part of the government institution which does not require any financial assistance,” he lamented.

“As our recurrent expenditure is in the region of RM200,000 per year, we hope the public will support our annual flag sales,” he added.
