MRCS Sibu to celebrate World First Aid Day on Oct 12

SIBU: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu Branch is set to celebrate World First Aid Day with the theme First Aid and Sports.

Scheduled on Saturday (Oct 12) at their headquarters, the theme emphasises the importance of immediate medical attention in the context of sports-related injuries.

“This year theme are called to highlight the critical role that first aid can play in sporting environments, ensuring the safety and well-being athletes, spectators and communities worldwide.

“Its also highlight the the need for comprehensive injury prevention strategies, effective protocols, and the adoption of first aid policies to ensure safety.

“While sports inherently carry the risk of injuries, understanding the foundational principles of first aid is vital in responding to these situations,” it said.

It said in a press release issued by MRCS Sibu, Tuesday (Oct 8).

It also said that sports are a source of joy and entertainment and an arena where individuals challenge their physical limits, foster camaraderie, and promote community engagement.

“Amidst the excitement of athletic pursuits, there is the potential for injuries and medical emergencies,” it said.

Moreover, MRCS Sibu will be hosting activities such as First Aid Booth and Free Health Screening starting from 10am to 1pm.

In First Aid Booth activities will be held at Dewan Wong Soon Kai, MRCS Sibu.

“Public can learn some of thhe basic first aid techniques such as bandaging, ardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), managing choking incidents, treating fractures (Broken Bones), several bleeding, and sprains at their respective booths,” it said. 

Meanwhile, in collaboration with Alpro Pharmacy and Biolife Lab (Sibu) Sdn Bhd, MRCS Sibu will provide free health screenings with terms and condition (T&C) applied.

“The tests available include free blood glucose test, free cholesterol test, mobility, muscle strength, and bone scans.

The screenings will be held at the MRCS Sibu headquarters during the same time as the first aid demonstrations.
