LAWAS: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said plans are currently underway for the development of infrastructure for the Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) and the Sarawak Centre of Excellence in Technology (Centexs) in the area.
He said a sum of RM160 million has been allocated under the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) for the improvement of schools, teacher’s residences and dining halls.
“The government will continue to strive to provide the best educational facilities for the children of Lawas.
“We must ensure that our children are equipped with knowledge and skills so they can improve their quality of life and their families’ fortunes,” he said at the Post-Marriage Course Series 2/2023 ceremony at a hotel here on Saturday (Sept 30).
He said that through the Centexs institution, inspired by the Sarawak government, nearly 100 course participants in fields related to oil and gas have been enlisted for employment by companies, even before completing their courses.
Apart from that, Awang Tengah, who is also Minister of International Trade and Investment, announced plans for Lawas’ economic development through investments from companies.
Also present were Awang Tengah’s wife, Datuk Dayang Morliah Datuk Awang Daud, Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Development I (Women and Childhood Development) Datuk Rosey Yunus and Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong .
