KOTA SAMARAHAN: The on-going state-level Malaysia Sport League (MSL) is the best platform to identify new talent in each sporting event.
It is thus the best approach to preparing future athletes for Sarawak, said Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development I (Youth and Sports Development) Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu.
He said the organisation of MSL indirectly boosts the transformation of sports development in the state.
He said this at the opening of the MSL state-level Netball Championship, at Tuanku Bujang Arena, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) here today (July 16)
“We believe a programme like this (MSL) will provide the opportunity to identify new talent with potential to be brought to a higher level.
“In order to create a community that values sports, it is also important to promote sports interest among the local population in particular and to draw large numbers of spectators,” he added.
He pointed out that sports can foster positive competition, a high level of tolerance and goodwill, understanding, and the development of enduring moral and physical qualities.
“In order to promote the dignity of the nation and country, it also offers opportunities for integrating the various races into a single society.”
