PONTIANAK: The shifting of Indonesia’s capital to Nusantara will also have a big bearing on Borneo.

Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching, Raden Sigit Witjaksono said this is why he has over the last two years been encouraging micro, small and medium enterprises to be more active.

“To promote MSMEs from West Kalimantan, North Kalimantan in particular, there has been a series of programmes (exhibitions) in Kuching as well as other parts of Sarawak including Miri.

“Thus, this time we continue our collaboration not only with parties in West Kalimantan, but also with the Malaysian Consulate in Pontianak.

“In the future (probably July), there will be a similar agenda in Pontianak.

“This means that we (KJRI) will once again support efforts to promote MSMEs, the medical and healthcare services sector and products which are not only on the Sarawak side, but West Kalimantan, which includes Singkawang, Pontianak and Temajuk,” he said.

He said this after a meeting with the Governor of West Kalimantan, Harisson Azroi at the Official Residence of the Governor of West Kalimantan, today.

He added that the biggest hope is certainly on West Kalimantan because it is directly connected to Sarawak.

“We will encourage the route, both in terms of the arrival of people and vehicles, as well as for products.

“So, we hope the benefits from Tebedu and Entikong can be optimised.

“It’s one of the things discussed with Harisson and he gave very positive feedback,” he added.
