KUCHING: Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) Sarawak expresses its appreciation to the Minister of Human Resources, Steven Sim Chee Keong for enacting four new legislations under the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) to enhance union freedom, which is expected to bring the country’s labour laws in line with International Labour Organization (ILO) standards.
According to a media statement, the MTUC values the minister’s dedication and commitment to visiting Sarawak to witness the 17th Collective Agreement between the Sarawak Commercial Banking Association (SCBA) and the Sarawak Banking Employee Union (SBEU), marking the first time a Minister has attended and observed such an agreement.
MTUC Sarawak is confident that the long-awaited amendment to the Sarawak Labour Ordinance (SLO), pending for nearly 20 years, will be successfully implemented by year-end.
The collaboration between the Federal and Sarawak Governments is crucial for the Bill’s success in Parliament.
MTUC Sarawak is optimistic that KESUMA is on the right path to effectively achieving the 3K mission — Welfare, Skills, and Success — as outlined by the Minister and believes that these goals will be successfully realised in the near future.
