KUCHING: The public will be able to catch a glimpse of homegrown MTV Award winner, Jerry Kamit, at his exclusive performance at the Unity Concert on Thursday (June 22) evening.
Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) said the Unity Concert will take place at Godown Amphitheatre at the Kuching Waterfront.
The hour-long show with the theme ‘Unity Without Borders’ is open to the public and will also parade the local Sape evergreen group, Tuku’ Kame’.
“Jerry together with Tuku’ Kame’ clinched the prestigious MTV Band Alert and MTV Breakthrough Awards as well as showcased their remarkable skills at the World Championship of Performing Arts in Los Angeles, California back in 2009.
“Joined by 15 YPS Sape Ambassadors groomed at the YPS Sape Camp 2023, they will display their sape skills backed by the Perintis Orkestra Tradisi Remaja Sarawak (POTRES).
“Together taking the stage are international sape artistes including the Lawas-based Nurul Syafiqah Yusop and Seremban-based sitar maestro, Abishegam Tiyagadass,” it said in a statement on Saturday (June 17).
A spokesman of the organising committee said the Unity Concert, part of the three-day Sape Camp 2023 programme, will feature YPS Sape Ambassadors displaying their sape musical skills on stage.
“The interesting part of the show is the dressing up of these performers, who will be sporting their traditional costumes on stage,” he said.
Describing it as a kaleidoscope of united Malaysian youths performing the sape under one roof, he added that the show is certainly a unique show of unity, displaying the musical creativity of energetic Malaysian youths.
The show will kick off at 7.30 pm and is expected to end at 9pm.
