BINTULU: The highly anticipated Sukma 2024 Muay Thai event began with a captivating Wai Kru performance before the fights.

The atmosphere was electric today (Aug 15), with an intense energy filling the air as cheers and chants resonate throughout the venue, Paragon Street Mall.

Each cheer not only boosts the morale of the Sarawak team but also adds to the vibrant and dynamic atmosphere of the competition.

Representing Sarawak, Nur Iklil Zarifah performed the women’s Wai Kru, while Mifdhal Wafiy represented in the men’s Wai Kru.

Nur Iklil received a score of 9.10, and Mifdhal earned 8.97 points for their individual performances.

In the paired Wai Kru performances, Ain Arisya Zulkeplie and Nur Arifah Mahsunah achieved a combined score of 9.20 points for the women,

However, for Mifdhal Wafiy and Mohamad Azrell, they scored 8.60 points for the men.

For the record, Wai Kru (or Wai Khru) is a traditional ceremony where students show respect to their teachers as a gesture of gratitude for their guidance and training.
