TORONTO: Kuching’s designation as the host city for the 2028 International Water Association (IWA) World Water Congress and Exhibition (WWCE) could serve as a powerful catalyst for investment and innovation.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had on Sept 16 last year announced that the city has been selected as the first in the Asean region to host the event.
The opportunity is expected to stimulate investment, foster long-term collaborations, connect international water industry players with local companies, and address Sarawak’s water infrastructure challenges, he said.
In line with this, a Sarawak delegation led by Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi officiated the soft-launching of IWA WWCE 2028 at Metro Toronto Convention Centre here on yesterday (Aug 12).
WWCE is one of the largest global events organised by IWA.
The event covering the full water cycle brings together the world’s leading experts in the water sector to advance solutions that will deliver a safe, sustainable and equitable water future.
WWCE also will showcase the latest innovations, technologies and experiences in the water sector.
With the biennial event moving from one location to another, each edition offers an opportunity to highlight regional issues and expertise and to strengthen connections within and beyond the region.
In addition, the prospects of IWA’s presence in the Asean region holds the promise of igniting transformative discussions, forging partnerships and enhancing the capacity of the entire region to address its water challenges.
