Much tourism potential in Batuh Ayo, says Jerip

Batuh Ayo holds significant potential to become a key tourism landmark for Kampung Sitang.

In stating this Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr. Jerip Susil said its development augurs well with the tourism drive.

“This effort aligns with the state government’s ongoing mission to boost the tourism sector in the region,” he said.

He mentioned that Kampung Sitang, situated in the Mambong area, has also been recognised as part of the Padawan Geopark delta zone.

“Alongside Batuh Ayo, this area also showcases natural beauty, including waterfalls and caves.

“One of these caves, the largest in the Kuching area, has been documented and verified by the Sarawak Forestry Department,” he explained.

He said this at a charity dinner held in conjunction with the official launch of the Batuh Ayo Site Upgrade Project in Kampung Sitang on Saturday.

Dr Jerip who is Mambong assemblyman also commended the socio-economic growth of Kampung Sitang, noting the residents’ success in documenting their Native Customary Rights (NCR) land.

He noted that with modern agricultural practices, local crop production and the economy could be enhanced, as the Mambong area has been identified as suitable for the cultivation of paddy and bananas.

“Between 2017 and 2024, five projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) have been completed in Kampung Sitang, with a total investment of RM500,000, reflecting the Sarawak government’s dedication to developing the area,” he added.

Earlier, Dr. Jerip visited the Batuh Ayo project site, where work commenced on July 25.

The project, led by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), aims to beautify and preserve a historic site tied to local folklore.
