KUCHING: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s overall performance in managing the country thus far has been lauded by Sarawak leaders.
Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Jemut Masing said Muhyiddin was appointed as the nation’s eighth prime minister at the worst possible time when the world was struck by the Covid-19 virus.
“Malaysia was not spared as well. Despite this, the prime minister did very well to manage the situation.”
The Parti Rakyat Sarawak president said Muhyiddin’s efforts to contain Covid-19 were even made worse by a national political crisis due to internal power struggles within his group.
Federal Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said Muhyiddin had done very well under very challenging circumstances.
“No other leader of this country has experienced the challenges and trials faced by Muhyiddin and his Cabinet members in the last 12 months.
“Yet the overall endorsement by the international rating agencies is still laudable.”
On the home front, the Santubong MP said Muhyiddin had acceded to a number of substantive claims by Sarawak under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
“This has been done within less than 12 months, which we were not able to get before, despite the promises made by Pakatan Harapan leaders before and after they run the country for 22 months.”
Meanwhile, Sarawak Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah described the prime minister as sincere, caring, committed and steadfast.
“On top of that, he is also kind to Sarawak…willing to listen.”
The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women chief said most importantly, Muhyiddin respected and accommodated Sarawak’s needs.
PBB information chief Datuk Idris Buang said the prime minister was people-friendly and people-centric.
“He is above party politics. Most importantly, he brings the Covid-19 problems under control, which is very important to us.”
Muhyiddin will be in Sarawak for a two-day visit starting tomorrow.
