IPOH: They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. And this is certainly true in the case of Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof who has inherited the prowess of his late father in the political arena. The son of the first Murshyidul Am (spiritual leader) of PAS, Tuan Guru Yusof Rawa, Mujahid retained the Parit Buntar parliamentary seat for the third term in the 14th general election.
Commonly known as ‘Mujahid Yusof Rawa’, 52, he is the vicepresident of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) which was formed in 2015.
Mujahid first wont the Parit Buntar seat in GE12 on a PAS ticket and defended it in GE13 before he made the surprise move of joining Amanah and contesting in GE14, winning it yet again.
In the last election, he defeated Barisan Nasional candidate, Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan who was the former state secretary of Perak, with a majority of 3,098 votes.
Born on Oct 25, 1964 in Georgetown , Penang, Mujahid s tudied in Penang Free School before obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in Arabic Language at the Al-Azhar University, Egypt, his Masters degree in Human Resource in Universiti Putra Malaysia and Doctorate degree in Syariah Knowledge (Political Science), Universiti Malaya.
The father of three has worked as a lecturer in Universiti Multimedia Melaka and is also chairman of Penang Amanah. Besides being active in politics, Mujahid is also involved in the programmes of various non-governmental organisations, including as patron of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Muhibbah Wilayah Utara, deputy president of the Penang Library Corporation, and chairman of Masjid Melayu Warisan Dunia Lebuh Acheh.
He has also represented the Parliament and Amanah as panel speakers internationally including in America, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan and Australia. He has also written several books including Rejuvenasi PAS, Menuju PAS Baru, Kitakan Orang Malaysia, Malaysia Pasca Rasisme and Wajah Baru Politik Malaysia.- Bernama
