MUKAH: Locals are buzzing with excitement as competition day draws closer for this year’s Malaysia Games (Sukma) events here.
The town is abuzz with anticipation with everyone eager to witness the football events slated to be held in the division.
Muhammad Danial, 21, who is here with his family said that he was looking forward to especially watch the football matches.
“I would definitely watch it, Sukma has been a long time coming,” he said.
His friend Damian Julaihi, 20, also expressed excitement.
Damian, who plays futsal, is also looking forward to the football matches.
Meanwhile, fishmongers are also delighted now that a large crowd is patronising the Mukah market.
Norasiah, 27, said there have been many visitors to the ‘Tamu Mukah’.
“Today is a weekend, so there are many people, normally Saturday and Sunday will see a lot of people,” she said.
Accompanying her was her mother, Sapiah 55, who sells a variety of local fish such as ‘ikan parik’ (parrotfish).
“I will watch Sukma, I am looking forward to watching football,” she said.
Another fish seller, Suriati also noticed the influx of visitors this weekend, with many locals and visitors flocking to the market.
She sells a variety of fish such as ‘ikan tongkol’ (mackerel tuna) which are locally sourced.
Although Suriati plans to follow Sukma, she admitted that she is not a big fan of football.
“I enjoy watching athletics (on television) like the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4×100 metres relay.
“Football on the other hand, isn’t really my thing, as I am not much of a fan but athletics yes, I am a huge fan,” she said.
