MUKAH: The Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Gallery here serves to remind visitors of his contributions to the state and, in particular, his stature in the Melanau community.
It is an initiative of his daughter Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib who is Mukah MP and Deputy Economy Minister at federal level.
Speaking after launching community stalls in conjunction with Kaul Mukah 2024, at Tapak Pesta Kaul, here, yesterday she said the gallery items would help people relive the past.
Also, they will get know his personality closely, she added.
“This gallery has sweet memories of my father … it is not just us as a family who have lost him, but also the Melanau community on whom he had a big impact,” she said.
Hanifah said the gallery idea was brought to fruition together with the Resident Office, District Office and other agencies.
On Kaul Mukah 2024, she said so far it has received a favourable response from the public.
The event started out a little slow because it was held simultaneously with various events elsewhere but everything is going smoothly now, she said.
“We can see that changes have been made to the respective community stalls to highlight their respective cultures.
“Not only that, there are still many fashion collections as well as old items on display throughout the kaul,” she said.
Earlier, Hanifah toured the 22 community stalls in conjunction with Kaul Mukah, sampling the food prepared by the Melanau community and checking out the exhibits at the stalls.
Balinguian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi and Tellian assemblyman Tellian Royston Valentine were also present.
