MUKAH: A convoy making its way from Lawas to Kuching made a pit stop here, marking the first time the town played host to a delegation of such nature.
Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine expressed pride in hosting members of the Kembara Convoy which hit the road in conjunction with the 60th state independence anniversary next month.
“Congratulations to all the participants for making this Kembara convoy a success and giving their time, commitment and energy to get here,” he said at a dinner at Kingwood Hotel, here, on Friday.
He urged convoy participants to take advantage of this opportunity to explore the culture of the people in Sarawak.
“The 56-day trip from Lawas to Kuching is also an opportunity to spread information on the state government’s plans to develop Sarawak.”
He said under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the state had set its sights on becoming a high income region by 2030.
“We hope with the commitment of government agencies and people’s representatives, we can achieve this goal in a few years,” he said, adding it was equally important to have support from the people.
Also present were Mukah Member of Parliament Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib, Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi and State Deputy Secretary (Operations) Datuk Hii Chang Kee.
