MUKAH: A total of 42 Student Representative Council (MPP) members, along with club advisors of the Mukah Polytechnic Student Society (PMU), participated in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Simpulan Kasih programme at the Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE) in the Dalat Welfare Complex recently.

The programme director, Phan Siew Zhen, mentioned that volunteer activities are currently receiving less attention among Malaysians.

He emphasised that initiatives like these, carried out by youth in higher education institutions, directly convey ideas to the community, encouraging both youth and volunteer organizations to assist the elderly.

“Individuals participating in volunteer activities demonstrate pure intentions as they willingly dedicate their time and energy to help others without expecting anything in return,” he said.

He also clarified that the programme aims to train and educate participants about the concept of volunteerism.

“This, in turn, fosters a sense of responsibility in ensuring the wellbeing and harmony of the local community, producing compassionate youth contributing to the wellbeing of the elderly,” he added.

Activities included Zumba, ice-breaking sessions, and collective efforts to clean the PAWE. The programme not only contributed to the cleanliness of PAWE but also promoted it as a place for senior citizens to engage in daily community activities.

The activities also contribute to honing leadership skills and boosting confidence when facing the public.
