MUKAH: Four Malaysian Games (SUKMA) 2024 events will be held in Mukah next year.

Deputy Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said the events were soccer, netball, judo and sepak takraw.

“This will involve as many as 2,000 athletes who will camp in Mukah during SUKMA.

“At the same time, we also need 300 volunteers to help the event run smoothly.

“In addition, the state athletes involved will also come earlier to Mukah to start training” he said.

He said this while inaugurating the Sarawak Level Traditional Sports Carnival Programme 2023, at Dataran Pehin Setia Raja, here, yesterday.

Accordingly, he said, the residents of Mukah need to prepare and make preparations, especially in terms of business.

“Through the various economic activities that will be held in the future, of course it will boost the economy of the local population.

“I also want to tell all the residents of Mukah to give their undivided support to the state’s athletes in order to win,” he said.

Touching on the Traditional Sports Carnival Programme, he said that sports is one of the platforms to strengthen friendship with each other.

“With the presence of multi-racial and multi-religious communities in this state, we can gather together to enjoy sports.

“Besides keeping the body healthy, sports are also suitable for all levels of society in this state,” he said.

A total of six events were contested in the carnival

He added that carnivals like this are held annually in different areas and this year Mukah was chosen to be the host.

Also present were a State Legislative Assembly Member Tellian Royston Valentine and Mukah Division Resident Kueh Lei Poh.
