SIBU: The 31st Infantry Brigade plays a vital role in looking after the border security in Sabah and Sarawak.

Commander of the Eastern Field Command, Lieutenant General Datuk Stephen Mundaw stated this during his appreciation visit to the 31st Infantry Brigade at Junaco Park Camp here yesterday.

“We have plans to add more personnel and assets and enhance the training. 

“In the near future, it is likely that two battalions will be transferred to Sabah  while three battalions will still be maintained in Sarawak.

“In future, maybe we can suggest another brigade to be set up in Sabah, so we will have two brigades, one in Sabah and one in Sarawak,” he said.

Mundaw explained that the 31st Infantry Brigade was formed by  combining five battalions consisting of six to 10 border regiments that were  placed in Sarawak. According to him, the border regiments play  an important role in protecting the state.

“All of you in the 31st Infantry Brigade are frontliners in safeguarding the border security in Sabah and Sarawak,” he added.

31st Infantry Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Datuk Fadzil Tajuddin, Ninth Infantry Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Shamsiruddin Mohd Shariff were among those present during Mundaw’s appreciation visit.
