KUCHING: Low-cost carrier MYAirline Sdn Bhd is planning to increase the flight frequency in Sarawak by introducing the Kuching-Miri route in the fourth quarter of the year.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the route connecting the two main cities is very much welcomed as it offers more options in terms of airfares and schedules for travellers.
He said his ministry also requested the airline to consider routes from Kuching to Bintulu as well as Sibu, especially when it has more or sufficient planes.
“MyAirline has also agreed to carry out feasibility studies on the potential international direct flights from Sarawak,” he said in a statement after receiving a courtesy call from MYAirline CEO Rayner Teo yesterday (June 14).
In addition, Lee said, MYAirline has proposed to establish its hub in Sarawak to support its operations and to assist the development of the aviation industry, especially in the training and technical sector.
The ministry, he said, is happy to note that the airline has maintained a good record without any flight cancellation for the past six months in Sarawak.
