KUCHING: Studies are being conducted by MyAirline in regards to the suggestion of offering flights from Kuching to Miri.
Its chief executive officer (CEO) Rayner Teo said that the suggestion has been considered due to a demand from the Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, a few weeks ago.
“Based on what I learned during our phone call a few weeks ago, he (Lee) asked me to consider the flight offer from Kuching to Miri because the tickets that are available right now are expensive.
“That being said, I have told him that we will do a research on this matter plus it is also depends on how many passengers will book the flight as well,” he said.
At the same time, he also believed that the effort would eventually be realised.
He said this during the MyAirline media roundtable at the Pullman Hotel here last night (March 24).
Based on the demand-based observation, Teo stated that there has been a lot of movement since post-COVID-19, and he is confident the flight from Kuching to Miri will be implemented.
“Though the study has not been fully finished yet, I believe that the flight will be implemented.
“At the moment, our main focus after the domestic flight is the regional flight, which will begin next month,” he added.
He then explained that MyAirline is currently going all around Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia to get all the information on the route.
“Our first plan is to launch the regional flight this coming April, and next is the international flight, which is China and India, and that will happen very soon, I hope,” he said.
For the record, MyAirline conducted its flights 21 times a week from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching, 14 times a week from Kuala Lumpur to Miri, and seven times a week from Kuala Lumpur to Sibu.
