MYHackathon 2020 winners walk away with cash prizes

KUCHING: Sarawakian winners of the MYHackathon 2020 — ‘Digitalising Government Services’ bagged RM300,000 with an additional RM50,000 from the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) on Monday (Dec 7),

Under the Marathon category, the four winners (represented by their team leaders) are Norhidayati Md Nusi with the project ‘MIRA: Malaysia Infrastructure Reporting and Assessment’; Chai Kok Chin with the project ‘ROADPLUS: AI-Powered Road Asset Management Infrastructure’; Sharizal Shaarani with the project ‘ZHUZH: Urban Farming with a Zhuzh’; and Tan Kian Chor with the project ‘MyTech Farm’.

The winners of the marathon category won conditional grants of RM300,000, along with additional RM50,000 to fund their pioneer projects for Pilot Deployment for the next 12 months, working together with related ministries and agencies.

Under the Sprint category, the three winners are Mohammad Norhamizan Abu Bakar with the project ‘Skoupidia’; Husiyandi A/L Husni with the project ‘Smart Waste Management Routing — SKOUPRO’; and Mior Mohamad Afiq Mior Hasafi with the project ‘General Public Monitoring for Government System (SPARK)’.

The first, second and third winners for the Sprint category will each receive cash prizes of RM10,000, RM7,500 and RM5,000 respectively and other non-monetary prizes.

Out of all the submissions received, seven digital solutions caught the minds of the juries at the Final Pitch and Winners Announcement Day yesterday (Dec 7), with four of them slated to be deployed in 2021.

Chai said that his team spoke to local players in state — State Public Works Department (JKR) and Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad (CMS) Roads — as they are involved with road construction and road maintenance.

“In order to understand the problem statement and relate to the road issues in Sarawak, we reached out to them (JKR Sarawak and CMS Roads) to identify the key issue of the problem.

“Therefore, with the information obtained, we are able to create ROADPLUS based on the data and the issues that we want to tackle in order to bring in solutions,” he said at the press conference after the Winner Announcement ceremony for MYHackathon 2020 via Zoom.

Azman Hood, vice-president and stakeholder engagement of Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd, said the ideas and solutions that were presented by the winners of MYHackathon 2020 have met its objective to enhance the nation’s infrastructure development programmes.

“Although it was expected, I am still happy to see the submissions from the finalists towards the digital solution for various issues.

“This has also showed that the participants are concerned about the people’s wellbeing based on their efforts to understand and find the right solution for the problem,” he said.
