MUKAH: During a recent sports event held in conjunction with the Mukah Parliament Youth Organisation (MYPO) Sarawak Independence Day Celebration 2018, ten football teams fought for the champion title.
The ten teams were named after the top ten 2018 World Cup teams. This year’s champion, France, only managed to finish as the third best team during a match which took place on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the England teams went home with the championship title after beating Belgium in the finals of the tournament held at Padang Mesra MDDM Mukah. The Croatian team had to be content with fourth place.
According to the programme’s head coordinator, Royston Valentine, the football tournament was just one of several activities held throughout the one-day programme, which includes other sports such as tennis, table tennis, archery and also relaxing discussions.
The progamme was organised by MYPO in collaboration with SABERKAS Balingian Branch, Kenyalang Youth Empowerment (KYE) Sarawak, Kelab Kesetiaan Sarawak, Setiaraja Mukah Football Development Academy, Mukah District AADK Squad, Mukah Traditional Archery Club and Mukah United Tennis Club.
“Top four or five winners of various competitions walked away with trophies, medals and hampers,” added Royston.
Other results of the day included Sarawak Independence Cup Tennis Competition winners, namely champions, Ali Resat and Anthony Akup, Manggis and Noordin in second place, Jais and Adi Kupun in third place and Abraham and Selihi in fourth place.
For table tennis, Sidek and Osman of RANDO B came out in first place, Mohd Azrey and Hamzin of RANDO A in second place, Amirul and Rodney of RANDO C in third place while Paksu and Hamdan of PKBA secured the fourth place.
For traditional archery (Dynamic), Izzudin Julaihi secured the top spot while Pengiran came in second place, Mohd Iskandar in third place, Ustaz Hairi in fourth place and Habib Adenan came in fifth place.
For traditional archery (Attired), Habib Adenan emerged as champion while Mohd Harani came in second, Ustaz Hairi in third place, Syed Hafis in fourth place and Mohd Iskandar came in fifth place.
A relaxing discussion entitled ‘I am Sarawakian’ themed ‘722: Meaning For Me And The Children of Sarawak’ was also held, with panellists, Abdul Halim Hamdian of Kesetiaan Club, Fikri Haji Ali of SABERKAS Bekenu Branch Chairman and Royston himself as the moderator.
The programme, which is the first of its kind in Mukah, came to a conclusion with a Thanksgiving Event, and was closed by Mukah Deputy Resident, Abdul Halim Abdullah who represented Balingian State Assemlyman, Abdul Yakub Hari Arbi.
Also seen at the function were SAO Nolin Gendang (Resident Office Social Unit), State Member of Youth Parliament Malaysia, Diana Stanislaus, MYAC Supervisors, Azrey Abdullah, Abdul Halim Hamdian and Fikri and Football Academy Chairman, Jamal Haji Wasli.
