KUCHING: The Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) has officially launched the Sarawak Youth StartUp programme, a comprehensive, long-term initiative designed to empower youth involvement in entrepreneurship.
Its Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said the programme aims to create a sustainable ecosystem of support to ensure the success, growth, and competitiveness of young entrepreneurs across Sarawak.
“With the goal of enrolling approximately 300 participants each year from all regions of Sarawak, MYSED is committed to providing the necessary resources for youth to thrive in the business world,” he said.
Abdul Karim delivered his address during the launch of the Sarawak Youth StartUp 2024 at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today (Nov 13).
In an exciting move, he said that the expenses for meals and accommodation during the programme will be fully covered by MYSED and the state government, at no cost to the participants.
“The Youth StartUp programme offers a thorough eight-day course, designed to equip participants with essential entrepreneurial knowledge.
“The course, which covers a complete syllabus from A to Z, will focus on the basics of entrepreneurship, including key topics such as company registration, building self-confidence, financial management, account auditing, human resource management, and business administration,” he said.
He also mentioned that the first cohort of participants will attend the course from December 7 to December 14, 2024, at the Sarawak Sports Village in Kuching.
The eight-day course will cover a comprehensive syllabus, from basic business concepts to advanced strategies for launching and managing a successful enterprise.
“The programme is structured to address key areas, including company registration, financial management, self-confidence building, human resource management, and business administration,” he said.
The programme will also cover vital topics such as creating a business model canvas, assessing market risks and opportunities, branding, packaging, product verification, and obtaining financial assistance through government loan schemes.
“The modules are tailored to help participants navigate the early stages of entrepreneurship and ensure they have the skills and knowledge to turn their business ideas into reality,” Abdul Karim added.
Among those present at the launch were the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development’s deputy ministers Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat and Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu; the ministry’s permanent secretary Morshidi Fredrick; Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Deputy Minister Frances Harden Hollis; and Women, Childhood, and Community Development Deputy Minister Datuk Rosey Yunus.
