KUCHING: The Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (MySRBN) service is continuing to expand with enhancements to benefit the people, said Utilities and Telecommunications Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi.

Currently, there are 490 MySRBN sites throughout Sarawak, and the network will continue to expand, ensuring rural residents get to enjoy high-speed internet services.

Julaihi shows off the pamphlet of the MySRBN home prepaid package, which includes 300MB of free data every month.

After a three-year trial period, the improved MySRBN service will be available to the public, he added.

“The Sarawak government, through the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC), will introduce the MySRBN home prepaid package, which includes 300MB of free data every month.

“The use of the MySRBN service is based on the needs of the users. With 300MB of data, it is enough for basic communication, such as making voice calls via WhatsApp or occasional video calls to connect with distant family members.

“For those using WhatsApp to stay in touch with family, conduct business transactions, or handle official matters, 300MB of data is sufficient,” he said.

Julaihi made these remarks while officiating at the ‘Sarawak Digital and Connectivity Day,’ organised by SDEC at Kuching Waterfront here Sunday.

For individuals requiring more than 300MB of data, he added that the MySRBN service offers affordable options: RM5 per week for 200GB of data or a monthly package at RM20 for 1TB of data.

“The lowest price for similar services provided by other telecommunications companies is RM70 per month. Therefore, the MySRBN package at RM20 for 1TB is much cheaper.

“This shows the Sarawak government’s concern for the welfare of the people, particularly those living in rural and remote areas,” he added.

He explained that the minimal charge is necessary to enable SDEC to make improvements and expand the MySRBN service in the future.

Julaihi also urged users to use the internet responsibly and to monitor their usage through the MySDEC application.
