KUCHING: A total of 24,000 households across Sarawak have benefited from the MySRBN internet plan, said Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi.
He said the MySRBN package, which includes equipment and installation worth RM1,150 as well as a 300MB monthly data quota, was provided free of charge to customers to ease the burden of initial costs.
As such, he assured that efforts to expand MySRBN services in Sarawak are still actively ongoing.
“The internet plan is one of the Sarawak government’s intervention programmes to expand internet coverage, particularly in rural areas.
“A campaign to promote the use of MySRBN would be launched in Pulau Bruit in January 2025, with plans to extend the campaign across Sarawak,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech at the House on Monday (Nov 18).
On another note, Julaihi reiterated his ministry’s commitment to ensuring internet coverage along highways and major roads.
In this context, he called for the swift implementation of the federal government’s initiative, ‘Di Mana Ada Kemahuan, Di Situ Ada Internet,’ which was announced last year.
“I also call on the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to consider addressing blind spots along the Pan Borneo Highway, the coastal road, the Second Trunk Road, and other main roads in the planning of the National Digital Network (Jendela) Phase 2,” he added.
Meanwhile, Julaihi expressed his gratitude to the federal government for agreeing to hand over temporary fibre optic lines installed during the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway.
He added that the fibre optic infrastructure will be handed over to the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) for management, operation and regulation.
“These fibre optic lines were handed over without any charges to the Sarawak government through my ministry.
“The acquisition of these lines will bring benefits such as providing new connectivity to previously unserved areas and offering an alternative infrastructure for high-speed broadband networks,” he said.
