KUCHING: The Fire and Rescue Department here is still investigating the cause of an alleged explosion that damaged four premises at Emart Sejingkat Sentral along Jalan Bako, Demak Laut this morning.
A spokesman from the department’s operations centre said the incident which did not involve any fire or injuries, happened around 6.45am.
Firemen from Tabuan Jaya station were promptly despatched to the scene after receiving a call from the public regarding smokes coming out from the building.
The explosion affected three stores selling food, a clothing store and a portion of the supermarket’s shutters.
However, the cause of the explosion has yet to be determined and investigation works are being carried out by the Zone 1 Fire Forensic Unit to find out the exact cause of the explosion.
That being said, the department advised the premises owners to learn from this incident and be more vigilant and careful in the future.
They are also urged to make inspections before starting their business or when finishing their business to ensure that such incident does not recur.
