KUCHING: Police have arrested a suspect for allegedly robbing an elderly man at Jalan Nanas Barat here on Thursday (Sept 9).
Kuching district police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the 31-year-old suspect and an accomplice who is still at large, reportedly robbed the 70-year-old man at about 5.30am when the victim was walking alone to the market.
“The victim was approached by two suspects at Jalan Sungai Maong Kiri, and one of them was armed with a knife.
“The victim suffered injuries on his hands and feet as a result of struggling with one of the suspects during the incident and RM150 was taken from him,” he said.
The victim was brought to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment.
Background checks found that the suspect had nine criminal records namely two violent crimes, one property crime, and seven drug-related crimes.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping.
