KUCHING: A man was arrested for allegedly selling imitation face masks via online at his premises in a commercial centre in Puchong, Selangor recently.
A team from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Putrajaya raided the premises and confiscated 35 boxes of imitation face masks from China worth RM1,575.
The ministry’s director of Enforcement Datuk Iskandar Halim said the man was suspected of purchasing the cheap face masks and re-packing it using a brand name.
“The 30-year-old suspect also used social media such as Facebook to advertise the sale of the masks.
“The sale is advertised via WhatsApp order, and the goods will be shipped via post or cash on delivery (COD) method around the Lembah Klang area,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
He said all the items were seized and the suspect was detained to assist in the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 102 (1) (c) of the Trademark Act 2019.
