KUCHING: The launch of 156 National Information Dissemination Centre (Nadi) centres across Sarawak will bring significant benefits to local communities, particularly entrepreneurs, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
“Under Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), there are 1,099 Nadi centres nationwide, costing RM100 million. In Sarawak, 155 of the 156 centres are fully operational,” he said during a visit to the Nadi centre at Taman Sukma recently.
A new approach to Nadi centres will focus on community engagement, he said.
“We’re introducing ‘Nadi for you’ and ‘Nadi to you,’ bringing Nadi services directly to the community. For instance, the Taman Sukma centre is collaborating with schools to provide cybersecurity education.”
Fahmi also highlighted the centre’s role in supporting local entrepreneurs.
“With high-speed internet here, entrepreneurs can leverage platforms like Shopee and TikTok Shop. We’re also exploring partnerships with Pos Malaysia to facilitate product delivery.”
He acknowledged that while half of the Nadi centres have a basic 100 Mbps speed, sufficient for online classes and other activities, the goal is to maximise their potential.
“We’re encouraging collaboration with various agencies, including health offices, schools, and local entrepreneurs, to utilise these centres for community development.”
