KUCHING: Naim Holdings Berhad (NAIM) and Forestry Department Sarawak (FDS) collaborated in a large-scale tree planting at the Sabal Forest Reserve recently.
The initiative which also involve the local community saw the planting of 1,000 high-value local tree species such as ‘Engkabang Jantong, ‘Bintangor Batang Puteh’, ‘Selangan Batu Pinang’, ‘Resak Tangkai Ungu’, and ‘Meranti Melantai’.
NAIM said the tree planting is part of the Greening Malaysia initiative as well as contributing to the preservation of Sarawak’s rich biodiversity.
“As a community, it is our responsibility to safeguard the environment.
“We are committed to environmental stewardship and efforts such as reforestation and sustainable land management that reduces our impact on the environment and ensures economic resilience in the face of climate change,” said NAIM Kuching Region chief operating officer Mohamad Faisal Zaidin.
He added apart from contributing to sustainability, the tree planting efforts provide NAIM with an opportunity to engage and foster stronger relationships with local communities and authorities.
During the same event, NAIM also presented a contribution of RM15,000 to FDS in support of their sustainable initiatives and the maintenance of Sabal Forest Reserve’s reforestation areas.
Meanwhile, the event is the first of three planned, with future tree planting programmes in Miri and Bintulu slated in the coming months.
