KUCHING: Naim Group of Companies fire-fighting team sprang into action to help put out two bush fires at the Permyjaya area in Miri.

Naim regional general manager for Miri, Patrick Kong said the team was established more than 20 years ago as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.

“Since then, the team has played an active role in helping to put out bush fires at Bandar Baru Permyjaya and Kuala Baram area.”

Kong said the recent bush fires were first spotted during routine patrols by the team.

“Our team spotted the fires and we immediately deployed our team to help put out the fires.

“We also reported the incidents to Bomba, which deployed manpower for this as well. In addition, we also informed other authorities namely Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Environment Board,” he added.

Kong said the team conducted regular inspections and patrols not only at its development site but also at surrounding areas.

“The frequency of such patrols is increased during the dry season due to high possibility of wildfires. Currently, we conduct three patrols daily.”

Besides patrols, Kong said the team would also display signs on Naim’s sites that clearly prohibit trespassing and open burnings.

He noted that some of the initiatives carried out by the team also included the construction of fire breakers to prevent the spread of bush fires.

Creating a water barrier as one way to prevent spread of wild fires.

Kong said one of the vital equipment was the drone.

“We use the drone to monitor our sites and the surrounding areas. With the drone, we are able to view happenings on ground in real time and respond to them. This has added great value to our operations, especially in terms of emergency responses.”

“We will continue to be vigilant and remain committed in helping the authorities address this concern,” he added.
