KUCHING: Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri has urged the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in Sarawak to improve internet connectivity in ten schools in the Santubong constituency.

Nancy, who is Santubong MP, visited the MCMC Sarawak Regional Office on Sunday morning to hear MCMC’s internet connectivity plans for Santubong.

She said a list of ten schools under her constituency has been sent to MCMC Sarawak due to poor access to the internet.

“Santubong is not far from town and it is impossible that we do not have 4G, 5G internet because they need to learn, work and go about their daily routine.

“Even if there’s WiFi, the internet coverage is very low, therefore we needed an explanation from MCMC and that was why the visit was made.

“MCMC has laid out their plans for Santubong, which is good, at least we know what the government’s plans are for Santubong,” she said after attending a ‘Kasih Ramadan Yadim Programme’ at Rumah JKKK Bandar Baru Semariang on Sunday (April 2).

She said that there are some areas within her constituency that will have full internet connectivity

“There are also some areas in Santubong which will have full internet access, but that would be in 2024. Some are progressing fast because the process of development is currently ongoing,” she said.

She aims to achieve 100 per cent internet connectivity in Santubong by the year 2025.

The Santubong constituency has achieved around 95 per cent internet connectivity as a whole.

After the ‘Kasih Ramadan Yadim Programme’, Nancy visited the Bandar Baru Semariang Ramadan Bazaar to give out bubur lambuk (savoury porridge) to food stalls and food handlers present at the bazaar.
