KUCHING: The Election Commission (EC) should revise its legislation and introduce new policies that are clear and well-defined, said Batang Sadong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

When asked to comment on the EC prohibiting Cabinet ministers and government-employed politicians from campaigning during working hours and the usage of government vehicles, Nancy said the move was very subjective.

“I see the points made by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad – ministers are also politicians. When I was a minister, I had to use my own personal vehicle,” she said.

She stressed that the EC might have to provide rules and regulations for ministers and those in the administration to abide by.

“From my observation, some ministers even wore their corporate shirts for campaigning. This is among the issues that the EC needs to take into account,” she said.

On what are and what are not allowable, they have to be discussed in detail to prevent confusion among civil servants, especially law enforcers.
