KUCHING: Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri thanked Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who resigned as prime minister of Malaysia on Monday, for entrusting her with the role of Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (Motac) since March 2020.
The Batang Sadong MP also thanked all Motac staff who had given her their cooperation and support.
“On this occasion as well, I would like to apologise to all Malaysians for all the shortcomings during my service as the minister and thank you for giving me your support and trust to serve the country.
“I think that God has the best plan for Malaysia and all of its people. We pray for the best and hopefully, whoever is chosen and entrusted with leading the Malaysian administration after this will be able to carry out their responsibilities well,” she said.
In a statement today, Nancy added that as a Cabinet Member, she had the opportunity to work closely with Muhyiddin and gain a better understanding of the commitment and efforts made by all Cabinet colleagues under his leadership in governing and managing the country amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I am grateful that the request I brought to help the local tourism, arts and culture industry players through this difficult situation for more than a year was not disregarded by Muhyiddin.
“This includes the provision of assistance and incentives to tourism and cultural industry players up to the permission of domestic tourism activities involving hotels and homestays to individuals who have received complete vaccines as announced recently.
“Motac’s plan to make Langkawi Island as a pilot project for a tourism bubble destination also received Muhyiddin’s support to ensure that the country’s tourism and cultural industry recovers,” she said.
