KEDAH: The murder of Nur Farah Kartini, who hailed from Miri, has prompted Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri to say this: “No woman should ever go through this.”
Accompanied by officials from the National Welfare Foundation, the Social Welfare Department (JKM), and counsellors, Nancy met with Nur Farah Kartini’s mother, siblings, and other family members at Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) yesterday (July 17).
In a statement on Facebook, Nancy said a RM300 immediate assistance from JKM and a RM3,000 grant from the PEKA YKN (Family Welfare Scheme for Victims) were handed over to the bereaved family.
Nancy, when contacted, said the family was accommodated at UPSI’s guest house, with a vehicle provided for their transportation needs.
“On behalf of Sarawak, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to UPSI for their support in assisting the family of the deceased.
“I also thank all parties who have helped alleviate the burden of the family. May your kindness be blessed by Allah SWT,” she added.
The body of Nur Farah Kartini remains at Hospital Sg Buloh, awaiting DNA test results, which are expected to take some time.
The family has decided to bury her in Pahang, in her sister-in-law’s village.
The former student of UPSI in Tanjung Malim, was reported missing after delivering a rental car to a customer on July 10.
Tragically, on July 15, her body was found at an oil palm plantation in Kampung Sri Kledang, Hulu Selangor.
The 25-year-old woman, whose body was discovered around 6 pm is believed to have been murdered by someone she knew.
Investigations led to the arrest of a 26-year-old lance corporal stationed at the Slim River police station.
