KAPIT: The Nanga Menuan-Nanga Setapus road project (Phase 1) is progressing smoothly and is expected to be completed soon, said Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Aidel Lariwoo.
Aidel said the project has reached 93 per cent completion and is scheduled to be fully completed by the end of July.
Upon the completion of Phase 1, he said works on Phase 2 towards Nanga Setapus will commence.
“This road will connect 10 longhouses and two primary schools. We are very satisfied with the progress and quality of the work. We have confidence in the appointed contractor to complete this project,” he said during a visit to the project site here recently.
Also accompanying Aidel were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Laws and Customs) Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Kapit Division Resident Galong Luang and representatives from the Public Works Department (JKR) Kapit.
According to Aidel, once the road is fully completed, the long-awaited ferry service from Nanga Menuan to Batang Rajang will start.
He clarified that currently the ferry service is undergoing trial before commencing full operations.
He also inspected potential locations for the construction of the Nanga Menuan-Batang Rajang Bridge, which will connect Kapit Market to Nanga Menuan once the road is completed.
Later he visited Tebingan Kapit, where the project’s progress is ahead of schedule and is expected to be completed this year.
Once completed, he said Tebingan Kapit will become a focal point and one of the best places in the state.
