SIBU: G1-G4 contractors appointed to execute nationwide, valued at RM300mil, must perform their tasks diligently, says federal Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
Speaking at a press conference after the “Majlis Cabutan Undi Kerja Berkala Bagi Kontraktor G1-G4 Di Bawah Kontrak Penyenggaraan Jalan Persekutuan Negeri Sarawak Tahun 2024” event on Friday (May 24), he noted that the recently approved increase in the schedule of rates (SOR) reflects the rising costs of materials and services.
“The new SOR, which had not been reviewed for 10 years, is significantly higher now. This takes into account the increased costs of materials and services over time,” Nanta explained.
“Therefore, the government expects these works to be completed diligently. There can no longer be claims of unjust prices or inability to cover profits.”
Nanta pointed out that the SOR increase is approximately the same for Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan, around 30 per cent.
The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has allocated RM300mil for the Development Expenditure for Maintenance Works by G1 to G4 Contractors on Federal Roads throughout Malaysia through Budget 2024.
Of this amount, RM200mil is earmarked for 336 projects in Peninsular Malaysia, while RM100mil is allocated for 121 projects in Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan.
“The allocation is fair given the longer roads and more kilometres in Peninsular Malaysia compared to Sarawak and Sabah,” the Kapit MP noted.
At the event, Nanta announced 64 projects in Sarawak, including 41 periodic pavement works valued at RM42.5mil and 23 non-pavement periodic works amounting to RM7.5mil.
