KAPIT: Federal Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has hailed the completion of the road construction of the Kapit Phase 1 project connecting Nanga Menuan to Nanga Setepus as a testament to the state government’s commitment.

The project, which includes the construction of two bridges linking Nanga Menuan to Rumah (Rh) Jengging, spans 9.35 kilometres (km) and has been completed at a cost exceeding RM50 million.

Nanta said this initiative is set to benefit residents of 10 longhouses and students attending a school with seven newly provided access roads.

He added the project’s funding was provided by the state government, demonstrating its commitment to fulfilling one of its manifesto promises under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to prioritise the welfare of the people.

“Ensuring good road access remains a top priority for the Sarawak Government.

“Indeed, the extensive benefits to the local community’s socio-economic well-being are undeniable.

“We, along with all Kapit residents, highly value the efforts invested in constructing these roads within the Kapit parliamentary constituency,” he said in a Facebook post.

Earlier, Nanta, who is the Kapit MP, personally inspected the completion of Phase 1 construction of the Nanga Menuan-Nanga Setepus road link.

He also expressed hope that the state government would consider and approve funding for Phase 2 of the project, involving a 6-kilometre stretch of road, to further enhance connectivity to Nanga Setepus.

“I understand that the road plan for Phase 2 has been finalised and land acquisition and compensation payments have been completed.

“The construction of Phase 2 will benefit an additional six longhouses and another school,” Nanta added.

Meanwhile, during his visit to Rh Igau Bukong Baruh Sungai Menuan, one of the longhouses benefiting from the new road, Nanta observed various improvements made to enhance the residents’ comfort.

As such, he presented a contribution of RM20,000 to Rh Igau, ensuring that facilities there continue to be upgraded.
