KAPIT: The government will continue giving focus to infrastructure development here  to ensure the division develops along with other areas in Sarawak.

Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said currently a lot of focus is being given to the construction of roads that connect villages and longhouses to the town.

In addition, he said, focus was also given to expanding internet services, telecommunications, treated water supply and others.

“In addition to infrastructure development, we also do not abandon the development of the intellect because it will help a lot in producing people with a more perfect and positive character.

“Independence is not just being free from the threat of communism and so on or free from the shackles of colonies, but should be translated into getting out of the shackles of poverty and so on.”

He also said that the celebration of 60 years of Sarawak’s independence is very significant in Kapit because it is the birthplace of Tun Jugah Barieng, a founder member of the formation of Malaysia.
