KUCHING: The Martial Arts Federation of Malaysia which was represented by the Nanyang Wushu Federation Of Sarawak in the 2017 World Cup International Wushu Championship held at the New Taipei City Banqiao Gymnasium, Taiwan recently returned with remarkable results and glory for Sarawak and Malaysia.
The Malaysian Nanyang Wushu contingent was led by Prof. Dato Sri Dr. Song Swee Hee.
More than 20 countries took part in the championship which attracted over 2,800 competitors.
The Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak won a total of 19 Gold, 6 Silver, 4 Bronze medals and the Best Team Award in the championship.
Prof. Dato Sri Dr. Song received the Grandmaster Of The Year 2017 Award.
To date the Malaysia Contingent Nanyang Wushu has won a total of 274 Gold, 129 Silver, 60 Bronze, 11 Copper medals, three Instructor Trophies, one Grandmaster Award, one Martial Arts Leadership Award, three Golden Dragon Dance Award, two Golden Lion Dance Award, four Best Coach Award, one Best Dedicative Award, 23 Excellent Performance awards, two Milo Special Sports Awards, one Lion King Award, one Outstanding Award Toward the development and promotion of Wushu, one Best Written Thesis Award on Wushu, two Best Team Awards and one Outstanding Team Leader Award for the State and Nation from 31 International and World Championships and Festival.
The participation of the contingent in the event will be a step further in upgrading the standard and development of Wushu in the country, thus putting Malaysia in the world map of Wushu and also promoting Sarawak, Malaysia as a tourist destination.
