KUCHING: About more than 300 participants joined Building Bridges National Dance Tour at Multipurpose Hall, Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA).
The two-day programme held last weekend was organised by the Dance Faculty of National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (ASWARA) in collaboration with ASK Dance Company.
The participants comprised school students, freelance dancers and dancers under The National Culture and Arts Department (JKKN) and Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture (MTAC).
Managing Director ASK Dance Company, Imran Syafiq Mohd Affandi said the objective of the programme was to share and expose the knowledge in dance art to the people.
“We want to create an appreciation value among the new generation towards the dance art especially the traditional ones.
“We also want to make an empowerment that through dance, it can be a good career and more job opportunities related with the field,” said Imran when interviewed by the media.
“Sarawak is our ninth location among the 12 states; so far Sarawak is the best among all, whereas they have a high potential, disciplined and fast in learning the dance movement.
“Our remaining pit stop is Sabah, Kelantan and Kedah and this is our fifth edition of programme since 2012,” he added.
Meanwhile, Imran disclosed that an effort to dig more on the traditional art culture is needed for public information.
“Normally people only know the mainstream dance art, for instant, in Sarawak, people only recognise Ngajat Iban, Bilangi Bidayuh or Melanau, but few people know the different dances in every culture,
“The focus is more to the new generation because they are the ones who will continue the legacy of preserving our culture in future,” he pointed out.
