KUCHING: The National Unity Action Plan (Blueprint) 2021-2030 is crucial in ensuring that Malaysia will be able to develop fast in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development (KWKPK) Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said without solidarity and unity among the people of various races and religions, the nation and the state in particular would not be able to enjoy the development and sovereignty.

“In the context of Sarawak, we have a solidarity unit under my ministry and a unity department in ensuring that unity among the community is preserved.

“Unity does not come by itself. It has to be nurtured and maintained.

“We cannot just take unity for granted,” she told a press conference held at Baitulmakmur 2 building here on Monday (Feb 15).

She was referring to the national unity blueprint launched by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on the same day, which contains three aspirations and 12 strategies, each with several strategic actions.

Fatimah said Sarawak was also praised by the National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique recently for being a role model to other states.

“She urged other states to take Sarawak as an example on establishing Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) so that it can create a sense of inclusiveness across the society,” she said.

At the same time, she pointed out that the ‘Rancangan Integrasi Murid Untuk Perpaduan’ or ‘Student Integration Plan for Unity’ (Rimup) will be reintroduced by the state government in the near future.

Rimup was previously implemented in schools under the Ministry of Education (MOE) but was ceased after the ruling of Pakatan Harapan.

“One of the principles was to nurture the aspects of unity and solidarity among school students because we have to start educating them from young,” she said.

Fatimah added that the state government has allocated about RM800,000 for the ministry to implement ‘Randau Solidariti Komuniti’ programme to ensure that the unity aspect can be nurtured.
