KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) today proposed that this year’s National Youth Day celebration, which has been scheduled on May 15, to be postponed to Aug 12.

Its deputy president, Muhammad Fadzli Hasan said Aug 12 was chosen as it coincides with the date set by the United Nations to mark International Youth Day.

MBM and the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) have never failed to celebrate National Youth Day, but due to the current situation, with the country, as well as the world, fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic, MBM support the move by KBS to postpone the celebration this year, he said in a statement today.

The postponement, he said, would also give MBM and KBS more time to plan the event, as well as evaluate the nominees for the Youth Award.

Yesterday, KBS announced that the National Youth Day, scheduled on May 15, will be postponed to a new date due to the Covid-19 infection and extension of the movement control order (MCO). – Bernama
