KUCHING: National Youth Day is celebrated in appreciation of youth’s important role and contribution to society, said Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu.
The Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development said the celebration this year was also a platform to empower the youth to help them go through the post-pandemic phase.
Therefore, development programmes for them must be held to hone their soft skills and specialisation skills in digital, innovation and technical fields.
“Moreover, updating the youth development programme modules is equally important so that it can be adapted by today’s youth in line with the modernisation of the world.
“With these programmes, the youth must take the opportunity and strive to be the catalyst for the development of the state, especially in digital economy,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.
Following this, Rentap hoped that through the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030), the youth could help in the state’s development and the government’s aspiration to make Sarawak a developed state by 2030.
“That is why we are focusing on the youth as the backbone in the development of Sarawak,” he said, adding that the youth must seize every opportunity and take the initiative to propel the state to greater heights.
