KUCHING: The Dayak Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) of Sarawak and the Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) of Sabah are teaming up with Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) to host a major book donation drive.
At a press conference here Wednesday, Deputy Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Dr. Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, said this initiative coincides with the 15th Joint DCCI-KCCI Gawai-Kaamatan 2024 Celebration, highlighting the combined efforts to promote literacy and community development.
“Being the voice of native-led business communities is more than fostering economic growth. We must support the growth and development of our people and communities.
“Books Build Legacy is the best way for Sarawak and Sabah chamber members to unite for a good cause and realise our impact on society. This will be one of our key memories from the 15th Joint DCCI-KCCI Gawai-Kaamatan Celebration, and we hope to collect 1,000 books,” he said.
The book donation drive is part of “Books Build Legacy,” a state-level corporate social responsibility initiative by BESarawak. This initiative is dedicated to championing literacy and enhancing community development among the rural population of Sarawak.
This special collaboration between DCCI, KCCI, and BESarawak aims to collect 1,000 books suitable for readers aged between five and 17, in both English and Malay.
“Books Build Legacy has transformed from a simple donation project to a significant partnership programme for diverse organisations to engage with local communities and contribute towards positive change,” said BESarawak CEO Amelia Roziman.
“We aim to build a legacy of knowledge and opportunity for future generations by ensuring that education and literacy reach every corner of Sarawak.
We are very eager to collaborate with more organisations to change society and the economy for the better.””
The book donation drive will take place at three different locations over two days.
On July 1, it will be held at Samarahan Country Club in conjunction with the Gawai-Kaamatan Golf event, from 8am to 2pm. The following day, July 2, the drive will continue at the Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tower on Jalan Ong Tiang Swee during the Business Forum and Networking Session, from 8am to 3pm.
It will conclude on the evening of July 2 at Level 5, Imperial Hotel Kuching, in conjunction with the Gawai-Kaamatan Celebration Dinner, from 6pm to 9pm.
The 15th Joint DCCI-KCCI Gawai-Kaamatan 2024 Celebration is supported by the Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association, Dayak Golf Association, BESarawak, and corporate partners Liquimoly East Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. and R.T. Cargo Sdn Bhd.
